Fall 2024 Campus Visit season began in southern California, taking us for a spin around the country to conclude our visits in the northern California Bay Area.

Fall 2024 Campus Visits included check-ins with 74 Current Scholars at 24 universities across 13 states. Among all the universities, there were 16 freshmen who began their college journey just a few months ago! While traditional Milken Scholar Campus Visits encourage group meetings to build community and mentorship across Scholars, for their first year, staff meet one-on-one with freshmen to better understand how they are managing their transition to life on campus. In those moments spent sharing a meal and an actual campus tour led by our very own Scholar, conversations center on how to cultivate a nurturing community far from home and how to take on the incredible opportunities that their universities provide.

Campus Visits help Scholars learn about academic opportunities on and off campus while also strengthening friendships within the Scholar community. Staff are there to listen and help Scholars connect across their different years, academic and career areas of interest, and even shared hobbies and extracurriculars. As the Fall 2024 season progressed, Scholars across campuses shared feelings of excitement for new opportunities, anxiety for upcoming challenges, and found themselves contemplating how to best use their fields of study to make a positive impact in the future.

These visits allow the Program to walk alongside Scholars as they navigate their classes, friendships, and discover who they are and what they love. Throughout all of this, the Milken Scholars Program is happy to offer support as Scholars learn to make pivotal decisions about their academics, professional development, and personal growth.
