This fall, Milken Scholars have returned to schools across the country, from Southern California and the East Bay to Cambridge and Manhattan. Once the semester starts, our newest Scholars know that their fellow Scholars can be an important resource throughout the school year and beyond.
Staff members provide continuous support as well, and in October and November we will visit with Scholars at their homes away from home on the campuses of nearly thirty elite colleges and universities spread over twenty cities, hosting Scholar gatherings, large and small. Whether it is through a one-on-one meeting, a small group interaction, or large group feast, Milken Scholars have the chance to check-in and compare notes with the program and each other.
Often during these visits, Alumni Scholars will take a break from graduate school or their jobs to enjoy the company of Scholars in the midst of their undergraduate careers. Scholar breakfasts, lunches, and dinners are a chance for them to cement relationships that help to lend depth and experience to the Milken Scholars network. As with all aspects of their involvement, the opportunity Alumni Scholars provide to share and listen as peers is invaluable.
November will also mark the commencement of the Selections Process for the Class of 2015. Our Nomination Period opens on Monday, November 3rd and culminates at the start of winter break on Friday, December 19th.
School counselors, college advisors, and other educators from high schools in Los Angeles County, New York City, and Washington D.C., are invited to recommend some of their outstanding graduating seniors who would benefit from joining a network of some of the most talented young leaders in the country.
We are looking forward to reviewing their applications despite knowing that the task of selecting the Milken Scholars Class of 2015 is an extremely difficult one. Whatever the outcome, when the school year starts next fall, these extraordinary students will be poised for success.
For those who are invited to join the program, Milken Scholars will be standing alongside them, ready to go back to school. It is all part of the journey to become Lifelong Leaders for a Better World.
