Welcome to the Family!

On June 16, 2021 and on June 29, 2021, the new DC & NY Milken Scholar Class of 2021 and the LA Milken Scholar Class of 2021 respectively came together for their orientations and introduction to the world of the Milken Scholars Program, the Milken Family Foundation, and the Milken Institute. The new Scholars met each other (virtually) for the first time and learned about all the different programs, centers, and initiatives that the Foundation and Institute operate. Current and Alumni Scholars joined the new Scholars, as Ambassadors, to introduce them to the larger network of support that is standing behind them as they prepare to start their college journeys.
The new Scholars did not have to wait very long to experience the love and support of their new family as over 100 Scholars, loved ones, and special guests including Mike and Lori Milken, zoomed in on both Saturday, July 10, 2021 and Saturday July 17, 2021 to respectively celebrate the new LA and then the NY & DC Milken Scholars in the annual Recognition Ceremonies. Indeed, the continued global COVID-19 pandemic did not prevent the Milken Scholars family from gathering together en force in true Scholar fashion to honor and celebrate both the new 2021 Milken Scholars Class, and also the Milken Scholars Class of 2020 who did not have a Recognition Ceremony last year due to the onset of the pandemic.
While in virtual format this year, new Scholars were publicly recognized for all their accomplishments that make them stand out as Lifelong Leaders for a Better World. And in true Recognition Ceremony tradition, new Scholars still inspired us with their public reflections on their journey thus far and the journey to come while being able to share with their family, teachers, and mentors the positive impact that they have had on the Scholars’ lives.
The moment was made all the more special by a surprise video compiled from Alumni Scholars all over the country (and world!) welcoming them into their new Scholar family. While unable to celebrate and hug in-person, the virtual setting offered an opportunity for Scholars and guests from all over the country to witness this special occasion.
The new Scholars continue their introduction in the world of the Milken Scholars Program with the Annual Summit that began late July before the commencement of the new academic year. A busy summer indeed!
