Biography

Farwa is a Pakistani-Hazara who thrives in creating meaningful connections and building vibrant communities. Academically, Farwa is pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Applied Mathematics with a concentration in Finance and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology, both at Stanford University as a QuestBridge National College Match Scholar. Alongside her passion for community building and data analysis, Farwa envisions a future in the dynamic world of finance, driven by her desire to apply her analytical and problem-solving skills to make strategic and impactful decisions in the business realm.

Farwa is currently an Undergraduate Research Fellow at the Stanford Institute for Economic Policy Research. In this role, she conducts in-depth economic research on migration patterns related to U.S. asylum closures during the 1920s-1940s, under the mentorship of Dr. Adrienne Sabety in Healthcare Economics at the Stanford Graduate School of Business. Her research involves data analysis and interpretation, contributing insights into historical migration trends and their economic impacts. In addition, Farwa was a board member of Stanford Women in Business, where she plays a key role in coordinating workshops and speaker events. Her efforts help facilitate professional development and networking opportunities for women in business, fostering a supportive and empowering community within Stanford.

Previously, as the New Communities Coordinator at The Markaz Resource Center, Farwa was instrumental in welcoming new students at NSO, Admit Weekend, and various frosh community events. Her adept event planning and resource allocation skills ensured the smooth execution of welcoming events, fostering a warm and inclusive environment for incoming students. Farwa's Afternoon Chai sessions provided engaging and interactive activities that promoted socialization and community building. She also oversaw a $6,500 budget for event planning and served as the Social Media Manager.

Before these roles, Farwa served as the Internal Operations Manager at the Stanford Undergraduate Research Association, starting from September 2022. She managed a $10,000 budget for the annual Stanford Research Conference, demonstrated excellent organizational abilities, maintained well-organized electronic files, and facilitated mentor-mentee matches for research projects.

Farwa's passion for making a positive impact led her to work as an intern at the Hazara Resource Center from August 2018 to September 2022. Here, she analyzed and tackled problems faced by Hazaras in Afghanistan and Pakistan, collaborating with teams to develop effective solutions. She also led the Sewing Machine Project, empowering widowed women in Pakistan. Additionally, Farwa interacted with donors and local NGOs, effectively communicating information through phone and email.

In her previous role as Finance Manager at TurnUp Activism from June 2020 to February 2022, Farwa played a pivotal role in supporting operations management, sales, and marketing efforts. She streamlined financial processes, executed vendor setups and payments, and handled bank account administration and reconciliations. Farwa's analytical skills and love for data brought her to the South Asian Council for Social Services as a Data Analyst Intern from June 2019 to June 2021. Here, she meticulously cleaned and validated existing spreadsheets during the 2020 Census, ensuring accurate data analysis and entry.

Farwa is a QuestBridge National College Match Scholar, QuestBridge College Prep Scholar, and a Coca-Cola Finalist. Farwa fluently speaks four languages: Urdu, Dari, Hindi, and English, and she is proficient in Spanish. Farwa's diverse experiences demonstrate her dedication to creating positive change in her community and beyond.
