Biography
Fernando Rax Lopez, a graduate of Nogales High School, is a Gates Scholar Finalist, AP Scholar with Distinction, HSF Scholar, and IB Diploma Recipient. He was Co-founder and Vice President of National High School Ethics Bowl Club and President of IB Questers, serving as a mentor to younger students. Fernando is a QuestBridge Match to Vassar to study Sociology and Education. In his first year at Vassar College, Fernando was involved with Exploring College, mentoring local high school students with college applications and standardized test preparation. He has also worked with the Engaged Pluralism Initiative on campus, building partnerships between Vassar and its local communities along with developing inclusive pedagogical strategies in the classroom. The following summer, Fernando was selected to participate in the 2022 Chicano Latino Youth Leadership Project (CLYLP) Comcast Fellowship, enabling him to understand more about state public policy that impacts Latino communities.
