Scholar Profile
Gabriel Garcia
Quantitative and Statistical Analysis
Biography
Gabriel Garcia graduated cum laude from UCLA with a Bachelor’s in Psychobiology, a combinatory major of Psychology and Biology that is offered by only a select few universities in the nation. During his time there, Gabriel conducted pedagogical research focused on how academia could use methods such as “Inventing with Contrasting Cases” and “PS-I” (problem solving followed by instruction) to help both enhance learning/transfer and narrow the equity gap for marginalized groups within the STEM Field. Gabriel also played a key supporting role in helping his former professor to develop and enhance the innovative LS40 course at UCLA. This course seeks to change the status quo of statistics and data analysis by encouraging students to break the mindset of using rigid and dated statistical tests/methods in favor of Computer/Python-Based computations and coding.
After UCLA, Gabriel continued his passion for education and data analysis by pursuing a Single Subject Mathematics Education Credential at California State University, Long Beach. While studying, Gabriel worked as a long-term Substitute Teacher for the Paramount Unified School district for subjects such as Math, Physics, and even the JROTC program that he was once apart of from his former high school, Paramount High School. In his service as a long-term substitute, Gabriel listened to the desires of his students to learn more about coding/data analysis and created an internship modeled after the LS40 course he helped to develop, where high school students could earn Work Experience Education (WEE) credits.
After several years in the education field, Gabriel is now studying to complete his Data Analytics Professional Certificate from Google and enter the Data Analyst field.
