Biography
Philip graduated Phi Beta Kappa, summa cum laude from the University of Chicago with a B.A. with honors in US History and a minor in mathematics. He also completed a Master’s in Computer Science there. At UChicago, Philip worked as a research assistant for sociology professor Robert Vargas' Violence, Law, and Politics Lab. In the course of working there he co-authored an article for the University of Chicago Law Review with Professor Vargas and other researchers on homicide waves and policing in Chicago. He also won the History Department's annual Barnard Thesis Prize, given to the best undergraduate thesis in US History, for his senior thesis on federal civil rights law and police torture in Chicago which was later revised and published in the Harvard Civil Rights-Civil Liberties Law Review. In the Fall of 2022, Philip will start a joint JD/PhD in Statistics at Harvard University. His research interests include causal inference, working with textual data, and applications of statistics in law.
