Jonathan Meng

Biography

Jonathan grew up in Shenyang, China and moved to Santa Monica, California during high school. He double-majored in Chemistry and Mathematics at Williams College and completed his undergraduate thesis in organic synthesis. With the help of a Herchel Smith Predoctoral Fellowship, Jonathan then went to University of Cambridge, where he obtained his PhD in Biophysical Chemistry. His graduate work has primarily focused on the effects of post-translational modifications such as phosphorylation on protein misfolding and cytotoxicity. In his postdoctoral work, Jonathan wants to gain a more nuanced understanding of mitochondrial biology and pathology in the context of neurodegenerative diseases.
