Manu National Park in Southwestern Peru is one of the largest Amazonian preservation areas, spanning 1.7 million hectares. It is home to many of the world’s critically endangered species and has an abundance of incredible flora and fauna including 1025 species of birds, 221 species of mammals, and 1301 butterfly species.

Flower, Bird, Wind, Moon

花鳥風月 (kachou fuugetsu) is a traditional Japanese proverb that translates literally to "flower, bird, wind, moon" and means to experience the beauty of nature. Implicit in the phrase is the idea that you learn more about yourself through your experience of nature. While the meaning of this proverb is a bit nebulous, I was able to understand it during my time in Tokyo this past May.

The Great Outdoors in Australia

For the past three months, I had the amazing opportunities to study abroad in Australia through the School for Field Studies Program. The program took place in the Wet Tropics Rainforest, located near the city of Cairns. As an environmental science concentrator, this area was a dream study location as it is a region characterized by tropical rainforest, mangroves, and a diverse range of flora and fauna.

Since May 2022, I have interned in the Executive Office of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) for the Strategy & Futures Team, where I work to build a more agile, anticipatory UNDP that embraces complexity, actively manages risk, is alert to the trends and changes of an uncertain world, continually adapts, and seeks to learn alongside delivering results.
